After you are advanced from the test sentences we do not track your progress or monitor your recordings — so it is important to record carefully, and re-record any bad recordings. However, you are able to monitor the approximate quality of your voice by listening to the example synthetic voices that are created in the “Voices” tab, which are created about every 25 sentences at first, and then less frequently as they go along. A new voice is built every 400 sentences for the last half of the standard inventory because, after 800 sentences, it takes a lot of additional recording to make a difference you can easily hear. Bear in mind that these example voices are built using an older synthesis technology, and with default parameters that have not been tuned to your speech, so the voice quality is probably not quite as good as the final voice we will build for you, but they will give you a rough sense of progress as you do the recording.

NOTE: If you are recording the new “Gen3” inventory, the samples generated by the Voices button may be particularly poor and will not reflect the final voice we will build for you. This is because the Gen3 inventory was designed to be used with our latest DNN technology, which we cannot generate through the web recorder at this time. However, the Gen3 inventory is particularly short — only about 300 sentences — which will allow you to quickly finish your recordings, so that you can listen to your final synthetic voice sooner, via our Audition process.

Do you monitor my progress/recordings after I’ve recorded the test inventory?
